Jessie Rawcliffe - Untitled

Oil on a wood box frame, 849mm X 849mm H.

About the Artwork: "Made as part of a 2019 collection of work that aimed to subvert the roles of the viewer and the subject and challenge the usually submissive role of women in portraiture, this piece was completed over 8 months. Evidence of this is revealed by the tiny brushstrokes and translucent quality of the skin from so many thin layers. The work features an interrupted moment and has an unsettling edge due to the intimacy created by scale and composition." - Jessie Rawcliffe

About the Artist: Jessie Rawcliffe is a multidisciplinary artist and designer located in Christchurch, New Zealand. Employing frustrating care for pedantic detail paired with surreal omissions replaced with negative space, her growing body of work is a continual exploration into the roles of the subject and the viewer in figurative painting.

Working as a designer and illustrator has allowed her to produce and collaborate on projects that exist in the public realm, however, it's only recently she's had the opportunity for her art practice to do so also.
